Encouraging Our Youth by R. Daniel Allal is a warm, yeshiva-based Ben Hazmanim program created for teenage yeshiva boys during their vacation periods. The program runs out of Ohel Yosef Synagogue in Neve Yaakov, Jerusalem, and provides a structured, supportive, and uplifting environment during times when regular yeshiva schedules are on break.
During Succot, Passover, and the summer vacation, many teenage boys are left with long, unstructured days. For boys coming from less fortunate homes, this time can be especially challenging. Parents are often busy working or unable to afford activities, leaving these teens to fend for themselves throughout the vacation. Over time, this lack of structure and attention can cause boys to drift—from learning, from growth, and from feeling that anyone truly cares about them.
This program was created to meet that need.
Throughout Ben Hazmanim, we organize a daily learning schedule where boys learn together with peers their own age in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Each day includes breakfast and refreshments, giving the boys not only nourishment, but also a sense of stability and belonging. Beyond learning, the program offers inspirational speakers, chizuk talks, activities, events, and organized trips, allowing the boys to connect, build friendships, and recharge in positive ways.
A key part of the program is simply being there for them—providing a safe place where they can relax, let loose appropriately, talk, laugh, and feel seen, all within a healthy yeshiva framework. Older mentors and “big brother”–style guidance help the boys feel supported and encouraged, especially during a time when many otherwise feel overlooked.
This initiative is not a formal institution or large organization. It is a hands-on effort built on consistency, responsibility, and genuine care. Over the years, we have seen how boys who might otherwise fall away from learning and self-application stay connected and continue growing simply because someone made the time and created the space for them.
Funds raised through this campaign are used directly to make this program possible. This includes the costs of daily learning frameworks, food and refreshments, speaker honorariums, activities and events, transportation and trips, program supplies, and basic operating expenses. Donations also ensure that no boy is excluded due to financial hardship.
This work happens quietly, but its impact is lasting. By providing structure, warmth, and encouragement during Ben Hazmanim, we help these boys strengthen their connection to learning, to themselves, and to their future.
