Effective date: October 19, 2026
Rekonect (“Rekonect,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 82-4750961) that acts as a fiscal sponsor for community causes. We host Community Support Funds (CSFs) and Social Impact Campaigns (SICs) that are started by individuals and community members (“Program Organizers”). This policy explains what personal information we collect through rekonect.ngo (the “Site”), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Questions or requests can be sent to office@rekonect.ngo, or by mail to Rekonect, 208 Downing St, Lakewood, NJ 08701, or by phone at (973) 313-5325.
1. Information we collect
When you donate
- Contact details: your first and last name and email address. Where a form asks for them, we may also collect your mailing address and phone number.
- Gift details: the program you are supporting, the amount, whether the gift is one-time or monthly, your payment method type, whether you want your gift to be anonymous, and any note or dedication you write.
- Payment information: you enter your card number, bank account details, or Apple Pay / Google Pay authorization into secure fields hosted by our payment processor, Crowded Finance. If you choose to pay with PayPal, you complete the payment with PayPal directly. Your full card and bank account numbers go directly to the payment processor and never pass through or get stored on our servers. We get back only limited details, such as the payment method type, the last four digits, and the payment’s status.
- Billing details: your country and ZIP/postal code may be passed to the processor to verify the payment.
- Technical information: your IP address is sent to our payment processor with each payment to help prevent fraud. We also record your browser type and limited diagnostic data about how the donation form loaded and submitted, so that we can find and fix problems with failed donations.
When you start or manage a program (Program Organizers)
- Your name, email address, mobile phone number, date of birth, and the information you provide about your cause and how its funds are to be used.
- If your program is given a Crowded account or a digital card for spending program funds, we send your name, email, mobile phone, and date of birth to Crowded Finance to open and maintain that account. Crowded and its banking partners may collect more information, or verify your identity, under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Records of disbursements, fees, and balances for your program.
When you fundraise, sponsor, or match for a program
- If you create a fundraiser or team page, or offer to sponsor or match gifts to a program, we collect your name and email address, and where the form asks for them, your phone number and the amount you pledge. Your name, and any photo or message you add, may appear on the program’s public pages.
When you contact us or sign up for updates
- The information you include in contact forms, messages, and calls, and your email address if you subscribe to our updates or to updates from a program you follow.
Information collected automatically
- Like most websites, our hosting provider and our analytics tools record standard information such as your IP address, browser, device type, the pages you visit, and referring pages. See section 6 (Cookies and similar technologies).
2. How we use your information
- To process your donation, including monthly recurring gifts, refunds, and cancellations.
- To send you receipts and service messages, such as your tax receipt, payment confirmations, notices about a failed or returned payment, and changes to a recurring gift.
- To run the programs we sponsor: crediting gifts to the right program, informing Program Organizers about their supporters, making disbursements, and keeping accurate books.
- To keep donations reliable and secure: preventing fraud and spam, reconciling our records against the payment processor’s records, and investigating failed donations. If your payment went through but the website showed an error, we use this information to confirm your gift and let you know it was received.
- To communicate with you about Rekonect, including newsletters and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time (see section 7).
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, and to protect our rights and the rights of others.
- To understand and improve the Site, using aggregated analytics.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not trade donor lists with other organizations. We share information only as follows:
- Program Organizers. The organizer of the program you give to receives your name, email address, and gift amount, for example so they can thank you. This applies even if you give anonymously.
- Public display. Some program pages show donor names and/or gift amounts. If you choose to give anonymously, your name will not be shown publicly, but the Program Organizer will still see your details as described above.
- BrightLeaf Giving. BrightLeaf Giving runs our donation platform, bookkeeping, and payment operations for us, and keeps a copy of donation records in its own systems for that purpose.
- Payment processors. Crowded Finance and its banking partners process payments, hold program funds, and provide program accounts and cards. PayPal processes payments you choose to make with PayPal. Each processor’s own privacy policy applies to the information you enter in its secure payment fields or checkout.
- Other service providers who help us run the Site, such as our web host, email delivery providers, Google (reCAPTCHA spam protection, address autocomplete, and analytics), and our email newsletter provider. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety reasons: when required by law, subpoena, or other legal process; to comply with tax and banking regulations; or to protect against fraud or harm.
- Organizational changes: if Rekonect merges with or transfers its programs to another nonprofit, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
4. How long we keep information
- Donation and program financial records are kept for as long as needed for tax, audit, and legal purposes, generally at least seven years.
- Technical and diagnostic records used to troubleshoot donations are deleted automatically on a short schedule. Temporary form copies are deleted within 7 days, diagnostic logs within 14 days, and payment-processor communication logs within 60 days.
- Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
5. How we protect information
The Site uses encryption (HTTPS). Payment details are collected in the processor’s own secure fields rather than on our servers. Messages from our payment processor are verified with cryptographic signatures. Administrative access is limited to staff and service providers who need it. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
- Essential cookies keep you logged in (for Program Organizers and staff) and make forms work.
- Google reCAPTCHA helps protect our forms from spam and abuse. Its use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager help us understand how the Site is used. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Google address autocomplete may receive the characters you type into an address field, so that it can suggest addresses.
- Our payment processors’ secure fields and checkout buttons (Crowded and PayPal) may use their own cookies or similar technologies to process payments and prevent fraud.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some features, including donation forms, may not work. Our Site does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals.
7. Your choices and rights
- Email: you can unsubscribe from newsletters at any time with the link in any newsletter. Receipts and other transactional messages about your gifts will continue.
- Anonymous giving: choose the anonymous option when you donate to keep your name off public pages. The Program Organizer will still receive your details.
- Recurring gifts: contact us to change or cancel a monthly gift.
- Access, correction, and deletion: you may ask to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. We will honor your request unless we must keep the information, for example donation records we are required to keep for tax and accounting.
- State privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law. We will respond to verified requests as the applicable law requires. To make any request, contact us using the details at the top of this policy.
8. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Third-party links
The Site may link to other websites, including program-related pages and payment providers. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Site.
